Our Values
We are dedicated to eliminating poverty by opening to everyone the opportunity for education and training; the opportunity for work; and the opportunity to live in decency and dignity; and with respect for cultural diversity.
The Community Action Partnership of Mercer County (CAPMC) was incorporated as a private non-profit corporation, tax exempt under I.R.C. Section 501(C)(3) in May of 1966. The corporation is non-sectarian, apolitical and operates independently of any federal, state or local government. CAPMC is one of 1200 Community Action Agencies nationwide and one of 43 which cover all 67 counties in Pennsylvania.
We were founded...
"To mobilize and utilize the resources within Mercer County, for the purposes of making a unified attack on poverty, through services, assistance and other activities with an aim toward eliminating poverty, or the cause of poverty by developing employment opportunities, improving human performance, motivation and productivity; and bettering the conditions under which people live, learn and work.”
Toward this end, we:
- Conduct programs that make people less dependent and more self-sufficient;
- Conduct programs that improve the conditions in which people live;
- Conduct programs that help people own a stake in their community;
- Create partnerships among supporters and providers of services to low income people;
- Increase the organization's capacity to achieve results;
- Conduct programs that strengthen family and other support systems;
- Enlist the support of all county citizens in combating poverty and its causes; and
- Provide decent housing that is affordable to low and moderate-income persons.

Community Action changes people’s lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities, and makes America a better place to live.
