Veterans Christmas Party
Every December the Community Action Partnership of Mercer County (CAPMC) hosts a Veterans Christmas party. It originated at the Sharon Elks Lodge. After two years it was moved to the West Middlesex VFW because there were so many guests that the Elks Lodge could not hold them all. It is completely free holiday party, sponsored by local organizations. Veterans, their families, and all of the volunteers enjoy a great time of fellowship and fun.
The party includes a full meal, desserts, and every veteran takes home a box of Christmas cookies. Music is played by Santa, Prizes are won, laughter is shared, and for many, it becomes one of the few moments of warmth in an otherwise difficult season.
Lt Col (R) Larry Sheetz who is the co-host of the party said the Christmas party is a very rewarding time for him. “It soothes my soul,” he said. “Many vets don’t have any family, so an event like this can change their whole perspective on what can be a lonely holiday. It’s an honor to be a part of it.”
